Anna has a special interest in gynaecology, obstetrics and fertility: supporting women through conception to birth. One in severn couples experience difficulty conceiving, there can be many reasons for this, research shows some of the most common factors include:
- Ovulatory disorders
- Tubal damage
- low sperm count or quality.
Approximately thirty percent of couples are diagnosed with ‘unexplained infertility’. Unexplained infertility means that no medical reason or cause can be found for the infertility, but with no medical explanation couples can feel unsure of what else they can do .
Acupuncture may offer a way forward.
Acupuncture and the theory of Chinese medicine has proven therapeutic benefits for those trying to conceive, a claim supported by the World Health Organisation. Furthermore research has evidenced significantly better pregnancy rates for those who had acupuncture alongside IVF as against those who had IVF alone. *
Acupuncture treatment may help with fertility by treating the following key issues:
- Regulating female hormones
- Reducing stress
- Increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs (including the uterus)
- Improving the thickness of the endometrial lining and increasing the chances of embryo implantation
The World Health Organisation also supports the use of acupuncture for morning sickness, and turning a breach baby.
At your first appointment there will be a consultation lasting 90 minutes, during this session Anna will take a full case history, to understand your individual treatment needs. Most women are asked to fill in a BBT chart (Basal Body Temperature) to identify any hormonal problems that could be hindering conception. Acupuncture treatment is then tailored to the individual’s menstrual cycle aiming to address any presenting problem.
Anna offers a 15 minute telephone consultation where you can discuss how acupuncture may help your particular situation.
