Anna has a special interest in gynaecology, obstetrics and infertility: supporting women through conception to birth.
Many couples experience difficulty conceiving due to an ovulating disorder, tubal damage or low sperm count / quality and around thirty percent of couples are diagnosed with ‘unexplained infertility’. Unexplained infertility means that no medical reason can be found for the infertility, but with no medical explanation couples can feel unsure of what else they can do .
Acupuncture can be a way forward.
Acupuncture and the theory of Chinese medicine has proven therapeutic benefits for those trying to conceive, a claim supported by the World Health Organisation. Furthermore research has evidenced significantly better pregnancy rates for those who had acupuncture alongside IVF as against those who had IVF alone. *
The World Health Organisation supports the use of acupuncture for morning sickness, and turning a breach baby.
Acupuncture treatment may help with fertility by treating the following key issues:
- Regulating female hormones
- Reducing stress
- Increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs (including the uterus)
- Improving the thickness of the endometrial lining and increasing the chances of embryo implantation
A consultation includes taking a full case history and most women are asked to fill in a BBT chart (Basal Body Temperature). Acupuncture treatment is then tailored to the individual’s menstrual cycle aiming to address any presenting problem.
